Dr. Greg Lee
Dr. Greg Lee is the founder and owner of Active Family Wellness. Active Family Wellness is a chiropractic office located in Fairfax, VA serving people of all ages, with a focus on pregnant patients and infants. Active Family Wellness is a full service chiropractic office that uses various modalities such as dry needling, disc decompression, stem, ultrasound, muscle work, rehabilitation, tool assisted scar tissue/adhesion removal, and nutritional counseling.
Overall health has always been of the utmost importance to Dr. Lee. “I started when I was a kid,” he recollects. “Being healthy kind of resonated with me. I didn’t like to take medication. I always wanted to be proactive with diet, exercise, reading for the mind, praying for the spirit.” Becoming a chiropractor has always been his dream because of the way it effectively encourages overall well-being and prevention of health issues. Dr. Lee’s background is in athletics with the Virginia Tech football department, and in the first two years out of his practice, he saw patients who were involved in automobile accidents.
Common Misconceptions
Many people are skeptical of going to the chiropractor because of all the “neck cracking” and the fear of getting hurt from it. However, chiropractors actually pay much less for malpractice insurance than most other doctors because the risk is so incredibly low. “Your premium is based on how much risk [there is],” Dr. Lee explains. “I pay $130 a month for my malpractice insurance. The people right down the hall from me? They’re paying thousands a month.”
Going to the chiropractor isn’t as plain as just getting a neck or back adjustment. Little do people realize how vital those alignments are to their overall health and well-being. “You live your life through your nervous system,” says Dr. Lee. “The nervous system is what controls all your muscles, all your organs, all your hormones…It controls everything. It’s the master control system.” With all the chemical toxins coming in through sugar, processed foods, pollution, and medication side effects in addition to the daily physical toxins of sitting more than we should and staring at a screen for hours on end, we need chiropractors to snap us back into place more than ever before. “If sitting is the new smoking, then screens are the new crack,” adds Dr. Lee.
The ultimate goal of a chiropractor is to “increase people’s tolerance to that physical, chemical, emotional stress, get them healthier and stronger,” and that can all be done by curing subluxation, or misalignment of the spine, which interferes with the nervous system and hinders the body from being healthy and having the ability to heal.
The Six Health Principles
Healthiness is composed of many different factors, but Dr. Lee was able to break it down to six simple questions that you may ask yourself to evaluate your lifestyle.
1. Do you sleep 7-9 hours?
2. Do you exercise regularly?
3. Do you eat right?
4. Do you read?
5. Do you meditate or pray?
6. Do you get adjusted?
According to Dr. Lee, if the answer is yes to all of those questions, then chances are you are living a healthy lifestyle. Everything done at Active Family Wellness is backed by science, but the biggest contributing factor to the success of their team is the energy they maintain in their office and spread to their patients. As Dr. Lee states, “our energy – you know, the tone, the way we interact with patients right when they come through the door – that is when the healing process begins.”
The Active Family Wellness Business System
Dr. Lee has found much success in his business because he has managed to run it using the following principles:
1. Vision – crystal clear plan of the culture, environment, and target market.
2. Leadership – how does the boss interact with the team and the clients?
3. Systems – scalable to be ready for growth, transferable to increase organization, and durable to be ready for obstacles.
4. People – understanding staff skill sets and putting the right people in the right seats.
Without those core aspects, Active Family Wellness would be far from thriving as it is today. Dr. Lee encourages any entrepreneurs reading this to follow similar principles because they are truly essential to running a successful business.
On the Horizon
Active Family Wellness is always looking to the future to improve their operations. According to Dr. Lee, the next steps are to improve their systems by bumping them up from 80-85% to 100% and to hire and train a larger staff in order to increase scalability. The team is very big on training in order to be the best they can be, so every morning they practice role-playing and go over their affirmations, purpose, premise, focus, and mission. Dr. Lee plans to further improve this training as he grows his team. “We’re growing in every aspect possible,” he says.
